Long-tailed Paradise Whydah, Vidua paradisaea, is a passerine of the family Viduidae that occurs in eastern and southern Africa, from se Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia to n South Africa. It is identified by the male’s breeding plumage, when the tail becomes strikingly elongated. Outside the breeding season, telling males from females is difficult. The species is also known as the eastern paradise whydah. It belongs to the order Passeriformes and was described by Linnaeus in 1758.
