Long-tailed Potoo, Nyctibius aethereus, is a bird of Amazonia and south-eastern South America, with a breeding range in the Amazon basin and the south-east of the continent. It lives in the interiors of lowland tropical evergreen forest, usually from the understorey to the subcanopy, and uses a range of humidities from fairly dry to very wet. The nominate form occurs in the Atlantic Forest region, while the other subspecies are found in Amazonia and western Colombia. It is a nocturnal bird that takes flying insects from perches, and it rests by day on dead stubs or branches.
