Hydropsalis maculicaudus
The Long-tailed Potoo is a nocturnal bird found in Central and South America. It is known for its cryptic plumage, large eyes, and distinctive call, which resembles a mournful whistling sound. This species is a master of camouflage, often perching vertically on tree branches during the day to blend in with its surroundings. Long-tailed Potoos primarily feed on insects, which they catch in flight using their wide gape. They are solitary birds and are rarely seen in the open. Their breeding behavior and nesting habits are still not well understood due to their elusive nature.
