Long-tailed Tit

Aegithalos caudatus

The Long-tailed Tit is a small, lively bird with a distinctive long tail, round body, and a small, black, triangular bill. It is known for its acrobatic flight and sociable nature, often seen in small, noisy flocks. This species is characterized by its predominantly pink, white, and black plumage, with a black and white patterned head. Long-tailed Tits are primarily insectivorous, foraging in woodlands, hedgerows, and gardens. They construct intricate, domed nests made of moss, lichen, and spider silk, often containing up to 1,000 feathers for insulation. These birds are widespread throughout Europe and Asia, with some populations migrating southward in winter.
