Long-tailed Tyrant, Colonia colonus, is a passerine of the Tyrannidae family that breeds from south-eastern Honduras through Middle America and across South America to north-eastern Argentina. It lives in semi-open tropical and lower subtropical country, including forest edges, gallery forest, early regrowth, plantations with standing dead trees, and openings within forest. It is the only species in its genus. The bird has a short, broad black bill, dark eyes, and black legs and feet. Males and females differ in plumage, and the central tail feathers are lengthened, giving the bird its name.
