Long-toed lapwing

Vanellus crassirostris

The Long-toed lapwing is a medium-sized wader found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its long yellow legs and distinctive black and white plumage. This bird is often seen in open grasslands, wetlands, and floodplains, where it forages for insects and small invertebrates. The Long-toed lapwing is known for its distinctive 'did-he-do-it' call, which is often heard during the breeding season. Although not currently considered threatened, the species faces habitat loss and degradation due to agricultural expansion and human disturbance.
