Loria's Satinbird

Cnemophilus loriae (Salvadori, 1895)

Loria's Satinbird, Cnemophilus loriae, is a passerine of the satinbird family that breeds in montane western to south-eastern New Guinea. It was first described by Salvadori in 1895. The species is tied to New Guinea’s highland forests, including montane forest, forest edge and secondary growth. It is most often encountered in the middle and lower parts of the forest, and it also uses fruiting trees. A notable feature of the male is its very dark plumage with iridescent gloss, while females are much duller and greener.
