Loten's Sunbird, Cinnyris lotenius, breeds in India and Sri Lanka, where it is found in the Oriental Region. It is a resident bird of peninsular India, especially the Western Ghats and the southern peninsula, with records also from parts of central India and the northern Eastern Ghats. In Sri Lanka it is the nominate race. It is a sunbird with a long bill that helps separate it from the purple sunbird in the same areas, and the male shows a maroon breast band and browner wings. It occurs in forests, cultivation and urban gardens.
