Louisiana Sunbird

Cinnyris ludovicensis

The Louisiana Sunbird, also known as the Ludwig's Sunbird, is a small passerine bird native to the forests and woodlands of Central Africa. This species is characterized by its vibrant plumage, with the males displaying iridescent green and purple colors on their upperparts and a bright red patch on the throat. Females have a more subdued appearance with olive-green upperparts and a yellowish belly. Louisiana Sunbirds primarily feed on nectar from flowers and also consume insects. They are known for their acrobatic flight patterns and melodious songs, often found in the canopy of trees. Despite being relatively common in its range, the species faces threats from habitat loss and fragmentation.
