Lovely Cotinga

Cotinga amabilis

The Lovely Cotinga is a striking bird found in the humid forests of Central and South America. The male has a brilliant turquoise-blue plumage, while the female is a more subdued greenish-blue. They are known for their distinctive calls and are often seen perched high in the canopy. Lovely Cotingas primarily feed on fruits and play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitat. Despite their vibrant appearance, they can be elusive and difficult to spot due to their preference for dense foliage. Deforestation and habitat loss pose significant threats to their populations.
