Ludwig's Bustard

Neotis ludwigii (Rüppell, 1837)

Ludwig's Bustard, Neotis ludwigii, breeds in Angola, Namibia and South Africa. It is a bustard of grasslands and semi-arid country in southern Africa, and is also found in modified places such as farmland and pasture. The species is a medium-to-large bird, with males larger than females. Its face and front of the neck are grey-brown, the rear of the neck and face are white, and the nape is dull orange. Females and young birds are smaller, with a slightly paler front neck and face.
