Otus hartlaubi
The Luzon Scops Owl (Otus hartlaubi) is a small owl species native to the Philippines. It is characterized by its distinct ear tufts and large, dark eyes. This nocturnal bird preys on insects, small mammals, and birds. Its plumage is mottled brown and buff, providing excellent camouflage in its forest habitat. The Luzon Scops Owl is typically found in lowland and montane forests, where it roosts in tree cavities during the day. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, this species faces threats from deforestation and human encroachment. As a result, its conservation status is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
