Maccoa Duck

Oxyura maccoa

The Maccoa Duck is a medium-sized waterfowl species native to sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its distinctive long, slender, and slightly upturned bill, which is adapted for feeding on aquatic invertebrates and plants. The male has striking plumage, with a dark chestnut body, black back, and white face and neck, while the female is more subdued with mottled brown and gray plumage. These ducks are typically found in freshwater wetlands, lakes, and slow-flowing rivers, where they forage for food and build their nests. The Maccoa Duck is considered a species of Least Concern by the IUCN, with stable populations throughout its range.
