Lanius mackinnoni
Mackinnon's shrike (Lanius mackinnoni) is a medium-sized bird species found in East Africa. It is known for its distinctive black mask and white underparts, with a grayish-brown back and wings. This shrike is a skilled hunter, often perching in open areas and swooping down to catch insects, small birds, and rodents. It is also known for impaling its prey on thorns or barbed wire. Mackinnon's shrike prefers open savannas and grasslands with scattered trees and shrubs, where it can easily spot and pursue its prey. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and degradation are potential future concerns for this species.
