Caprimulgus madagascariensis
The Madagascan Nightjar is a nocturnal bird species found in the forests and woodlands of Madagascar. It is known for its cryptic plumage, large eyes, and wide gape, which it uses to catch flying insects at dusk and dawn. This species is relatively small in size, with a wingspan of around 50-55 cm. Its plumage is mottled brown and grey, providing excellent camouflage against tree bark and leaf litter. The Madagascan Nightjar is classified as 'Near Threatened' by the IUCN due to habitat loss and degradation.
