Madagascar Plover Anarhynchus thoracicus is a local breeder in coastal Madagascar, where it occurs along the shore and in wetland areas. It is a plover in the family Charadriidae and was described by Richmond in 1896. The species is also known as the black-banded plover. Its breeding sites are mainly in salt marshes, coastal grassland, mudflats and the edges of alkaline lakes, with nesting usually in open ground and only a short distance inland. It is the only plover endemic to Madagascar.
