Madagascar Serpent Eagle, Eutriorchis astur, is a bird of prey that breeds in north-west, north-east and north-central Madagascar. It belongs to the Accipitridae family and was described by Sharpe in 1875. It is found in dense, humid evergreen forest, especially broadleaf woodland in the north-east and east-central parts of the island, and it seldom goes above 550 metres. The bird is diurnal and takes lemurs, snakes, lizards and frogs. It hunts from high perches, dropping onto prey and seizing it with its talons.
