Madeiran Storm Petrel

Aphrodroma brevirostris

The Madeiran Storm Petrel (Aphrodroma brevirostris) is a small seabird that belongs to the Procellariidae family. It is predominantly dark brown with a white rump and underwings. This species is known for its graceful flight and its habit of skimming over the ocean's surface. Madeiran Storm Petrels are nocturnal and nest in burrows on remote islands, where they are known for their haunting calls that echo through the night. They feed on small fish and squid, often foraging in the vicinity of upwelling zones. Due to their remote breeding locations and elusive nature, much about their behavior and ecology remains a mystery to researchers.
