Leucocarbo magellanicus
The Magellanic Cormorant is a large seabird found along the southern coasts of South America, particularly around the Strait of Magellan and the Falkland Islands. It has a long, slender neck, a hooked bill, and black plumage with a metallic green sheen. These cormorants are skilled divers and feed on a variety of fish and crustaceans. They are colonial nesters, often building their nests on cliffs or rocky outcrops. The species is known for its distinctive gular pouch, which becomes bright red during the breeding season. Magellanic Cormorants are well adapted to marine environments and are often seen perched on rocks or swimming near the shore.
