Philodice bryantae (Lawrence, 1867)
Magenta-throated Woodstar, Philodice bryantae, is a hummingbird of Middle America, breeding in Costa Rica and Panama. It is a small species of semi-open to open country in the Talamancan montane zone, especially on forest edges, in clearings, thinned woodland, secondary growth and shrubby pasture. Its most striking feature is the male’s metallic purple throat, set against bronzy green upperparts and a white band across the upper chest. The species also has a short, straight black bill and a small white mark behind the eye. It is found mainly on the Pacific slope.
