Diphyllodes magnificus (Pennant, 1781)

Magnificent Bird-of-paradise, Diphyllodes magnificus, is a bird-of-paradise that breeds in New Guinea and its satellite islands. It belongs to the family Paradisaeidae in the order Passeriformes, and was described by Pennant in 1781. It is found in tropical and subtropical hill and montane forest, including areas around 1500 m and up to about 1780 m. The species is notable for the male’s elaborate plumage, with golden-yellow wings, a sulphur-toned mantle, a green breast shield and two long, sickle-shaped central tail plumes. The female is much plainer and lacks the long tail plumes.
