Magnificent Riflebird

Diphyllodes magnificus

The Magnificent Riflebird, also known as the Magnificent Bird-of-paradise, is a species of bird found in the rainforests of New Guinea. The males of this species are known for their spectacular courtship displays, during which they spread their iridescent blue-green breast shield and perform intricate dance-like movements. They are primarily frugivorous, feeding on a variety of fruits and occasionally insects. The females, in contrast, are relatively inconspicuous, with predominantly brown plumage. This species plays a vital role in the ecosystem as seed dispersers and is an iconic symbol of the biodiversity of New Guinea.
