Magpie Mannikin, Spermestes fringilloides, is an estrildid finch found across Sub-Saharan Africa, from Senegal and Gambia to Liberia and east to Ethiopia and Kenya, with its range extending south to South Africa. It lives in subtropical and tropical lowland moist shrubland, forest and dry grassland. The species is part of the waxbills, munias and allies. It was described by Lafresnaye in 1835.
