Gallinula silvestris (Mayr, 1933)

Makira Woodhen, Gallinula silvestris, is a rail from Makira in the south-eastern Solomon Islands, and it may now be extinct. It belongs to the family Rallidae and was described by Mayr in 1933. The bird is tied to the island of Makira, where it was recorded in the past. The last confirmed sighting was in 1953. Later surveys in 2015 and 2016 did not locate it, and the researchers judged it likely to have disappeared.
