Malabar Grey Hornbill

The Malabar Grey Hornbill (Ocyceros griseus) is a medium-sized hornbill found in the Western Ghats of India. It has a distinctive grey plumage with a large yellow bill and a blackish head. This species is known for its loud, cackling calls and is often observed in pairs or small groups. Malabar Grey Hornbills primarily feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates, and play a vital role in seed dispersal within their forest habitat. They are commonly found in moist evergreen and moist deciduous forests, as well as plantations and wooded areas near human settlements. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the conservation status of the Malabar Grey Hornbill is currently classified as Near Threatened by the IUCN.
