Malagasy Pond Heron, Ardeola idae, is a heron of Madagascar and Aldabra Island, with eastern central Africa used outside the breeding season. It was first described by Hartlaub in 1860 and belongs to the heron family Ardeidae in the order Pelecaniformes. The species is monotypic. It nests in Madagascar and Aldabra, then moves to eastern mainland Africa for the non-breeding period. Its range also includes Réunion and the Seychelles in the reference account.
