Malayan Banded Pitta, Hydrornis irena, is a bird of the Pittidae family that breeds in the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra. It was described by Temminck in 1836. It is part of the passerine order. The species was once treated as one with the Bornean and Javan banded pittas, but it is now recognised as separate. Its range lies in the Oriental Region. It is also known by several other names, including blue-tailed pitta, Irene’s pitta, banded pitta and Van den Bosch’s pitta.
