Malaysian Blue-banded Kingfisher Alcedo peninsulae is a kingfisher of the Oriental Region, breeding in southern Myanmar, the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. It was described by Laubmann in 1941. It lives in moist lowland forest, mangrove forest and along rivers, usually close to water and often near streams within woodland. Adults can be recognised by the white throat and neck mark joined to a narrow reddish-brown collar at the rear of the neck, together with bluish-black upperparts and a silvery-blue back. The young are similar, but less vivid.
