Malaysian Plover

Anarhynchus peronii (Schlegel, 1865)

Malaysian Plover, Anarhynchus peronii, breeds in the Oriental Region from the coastal Malay Peninsula to the Philippines, with further local breeding in the Greater and Lesser Sundas and Sulawesi region. It is a plover of beaches and salt flats in Southeast Asia, and it nests on sandy shores. The male shows a narrow black neck band, while the female has a narrow brown one. Its legs are pale. The species lays two to five eggs in shallow scrapes on the beach, and both adults incubate them for about 30 days and rear the chicks until they can fly roughly 30 days later.
