Maned Duck

Chenonetta jubata (Latham, 1801)

Maned Duck, Chenonetta jubata, is a duck in the Anatidae family and the only living member of Chenonetta. It breeds in Australasia, with its range in Australia apart from the north and south-central parts. In Australia it is widespread, including Tasmania, and occurs in grasslands, open woodland, wetlands, flooded pasture, coastal inlets and bays, farmland with dams, rice fields, sewage ponds and urban parks. It nests in tree cavities or nest-boxes above or near water, using down in the nest, and lays 9–11 cream-white eggs.
