Mangrove Kingfisher

Todiramphus funebris

The Mangrove Kingfisher (Todiramphus funebris) is a small to medium-sized bird found in the mangrove forests of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. This kingfisher has a striking blue and white plumage, with a bright orange bill and legs. It feeds primarily on small fish, crustaceans, and insects, hunting from perches near water. The Mangrove Kingfisher nests in burrows dug into the mud banks of mangrove creeks, where it lays a clutch of eggs. Due to habitat loss and degradation of mangrove ecosystems, the Mangrove Kingfisher faces threats to its survival.
