Todiramphus reichenbachii
The Mangrove Kingfisher (Todiramphus reichenbachii) is a small to medium-sized bird found in the mangrove forests of northern Australia and New Guinea. This striking bird is known for its vibrant blue and white plumage, with a distinctive turquoise back and wings. It has a long, sharp bill, which it uses to catch small fish, crustaceans, and insects. Mangrove Kingfishers are highly territorial and can often be heard calling loudly from their perches in the dense mangrove vegetation. They are skilled hunters, adept at diving from their perches to catch prey in the water below. Despite their striking appearance, they can be elusive and difficult to spot within the dense mangrove habitat.
