Mangrove Vireo

Vireo pallens

The Mangrove Vireo (Vireo pallens) is a small, insectivorous bird found in the mangrove forests of Central and South America. It has a distinctive olive-green upper body and a pale yellow underbody, with a gray crown and a white eye-ring. This species is known for its melodious and repetitive song, often heard echoing through the dense mangrove foliage. Mangrove Vireos are highly adapted to their specialized habitat, where they forage for insects and small invertebrates among the tangled roots and branches. While they are not currently considered threatened, the destruction of mangrove habitats poses a potential risk to their population.
