Mangrove Wheatear

Oenanthe halophila

The Mangrove Wheatear (Oenanthe halophila) is a small, insectivorous bird found in coastal mangrove habitats of the eastern and northeastern regions of Africa. This species is characterized by its distinctive white eyebrow and throat, contrasting with a dark grey head and upperparts. The underparts are pale with a buffy wash. Mangrove Wheatears are known for their agile foraging behavior, often seen darting among the mangrove roots in search of insects. They are also known for their melodious song, which can often be heard in the early morning and late afternoon. The conservation status of the Mangrove Wheatear is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
