Mao, Gymnomyza samoensis, is a passeriform bird in the honeyeater family Meliphagidae, breeding on Savaii and Upolu in western Samoa, central Polynesia. It is a Samoan island endemic and is now found only on those two islands. The bird is a large honeyeater with dark plumage, a long curved bill, and black legs and feet. Adults have light blue or brown eyes, while juveniles have brown irises. It is known for tail-bobbing as it feeds along tree trunks and branches, and it nests in trees at different heights.
