Nesotriccus maranonicus
The Maranon Gnatcatcher is a small, insectivorous bird found in the arid scrub and dry forest of northern Peru. It has a distinctive white eyering and a long, thin bill, which it uses to forage for insects and spiders. This species is known for its high-pitched, nasal calls and active, acrobatic foraging behavior. The Maranon Gnatcatcher builds a cup-shaped nest in thorny vegetation, where it lays its eggs. Although not much is known about its population trends, it is believed to be at risk due to habitat loss and degradation.
