Todiramphus veneratus
The Mariana Kingfisher, also known as Todiramphus veneratus, is a small bird species native to the Mariana Islands in the western Pacific Ocean. With a length of about 20 centimeters, it has a striking appearance with a bright blue back, wings, and tail, a white belly, and a black mask across its eyes. This kingfisher species is typically found in forested areas, including both primary and secondary forests, where it hunts for small insects, lizards, and other small prey. Unfortunately, the Mariana Kingfisher is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List due to habitat loss, predation by invasive species, and other threats.
