Marsh Owl

Asio capensis

The Marsh Owl (Asio capensis) is a medium-sized owl found in sub-Saharan Africa. It has a distinctive heart-shaped facial disc with prominent dark eyes. Its upperparts are mottled brown and buff, while the underparts are pale with streaks. This owl is often found in open grasslands, marshes, and wetlands where it hunts for small mammals, birds, and insects. It is known for its silent flight and agile hunting behavior. The Marsh Owl is not considered globally threatened, but local populations may be impacted by habitat loss and degradation.
