Marsh Widowbird

Euplectes hartlaubi

The Marsh Widowbird, also known as Euplectes hartlaubi, is a small passerine bird native to wetlands and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa. The male Marsh Widowbird is known for its striking black plumage with a long, distinctive tail, while the female is more subtly colored with streaked brown and buff. During the breeding season, the male displays by puffing out its chest, raising its wings, and fluttering in flight to attract a mate. These birds are often found in large flocks, foraging for seeds and insects in the grasslands. The Marsh Widowbird is an important indicator species for the health of its wetland habitats.
