Marvelous Spatuletail

Loddigesia mirabilis

The Marvelous Spatuletail is a striking and rare hummingbird species found in the Andean cloud forests of northern Peru. It is known for its remarkable tail feathers, which end in blue discs and two long, spatula-shaped feathers. The male has a vibrant green and white plumage, with a glittering gorget and a forked tail. This species is highly territorial and can be observed performing elaborate courtship displays, including acrobatic flights and rapid tail feather movements. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the Marvelous Spatuletail is considered endangered, with conservation efforts focused on protecting its remaining forest habitat.
