Mascarene Grey Parakeet, Psittacula bensoni, lived on Réunion and Mauritius in the western Indian Ocean. It was an extinct parrot of the Mascarene Islands and is known from the breeding range in the central and western Mascarenes. Grey in plumage and long-tailed, it stood out from most Psittacula species, which are usually green, and it was larger than others in that genus. Records from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, together with subfossil remains and an early illustration, were used to link the bird to those islands.
