Aphanapteryx bonasia
The Mauritius Blue Pigeon, scientifically known as Aphanapteryx bonasia, was a flightless bird endemic to the island of Mauritius. It belonged to the family of pigeons and doves. This bird was characterized by its striking blue plumage and relatively large size. It inhabited the dense forests and wooded areas of Mauritius, where it foraged for fruits, seeds, and small invertebrates. Unfortunately, due to habitat destruction and hunting by humans, the Mauritius Blue Pigeon became extinct in the 1830s. Efforts to conserve its habitat and prevent further extinctions of species on Mauritius are ongoing.
