Mayotte Scops Owl

Mayotte Scops Owl, Otus mayottensis, is an owl of the family Strigidae that breeds on Mayotte in the Comoros, where it is common and widespread in moist lowland forest. It is a distinct species within the genus Otus, having once been treated as part of several other scops owls. Its separation was supported mainly by its very different call. The voice is a series of 3–11 deep, single hoots. It was described by Benson in 1960.
