McCown's Longspur

Rhynchophanes mccownii

McCown's Longspur is a small, migratory bird species found in North America. During the breeding season, males display striking black and white plumage with a distinctive chestnut patch on the nape. Females and non-breeding males have more subdued plumage. These birds are often found in open grasslands and prairies, where they forage for seeds and insects on the ground. They are known for their distinctive flight display during the breeding season. McCown's Longspurs are considered a species of least concern by the IUCN, although their populations may be declining due to habitat loss and degradation.
