McLeod's Nightjar

Nyctiphrynus mcleodii

McLeod's Nightjar (Nyctiphrynus mcleodii) is a small nocturnal bird found in the Amazon rainforest of South America. This species is known for its distinctive call, a series of high-pitched notes that can be heard at dusk and dawn. McLeod's Nightjar has a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage against the forest floor, where it hunts for insects. It is a solitary bird and is rarely seen during the day. The species is known for its unique behavior of roosting on the ground, making it vulnerable to habitat destruction and predation by ground-dwelling animals.
