Meller's Duck

Meller's Duck, Anas melleri, is a duck in the Anatidae family and the order Anseriformes. It breeds in Africa, including montane areas and Madagascar, where it is rare. The species is found in eastern Madagascar and has also had a population on Mauritius since the mid-18th century, although that group is now close to disappearing because of habitat loss and competition from feral domestic ducks. It is an endangered species. The name honours the botanist Charles James Meller, while the genus name comes from the Latin word for duck.
