Aphelocoma unicolor
The Mexican Jay, also known as Aphelocoma unicolor, is a medium-sized bird found in the pine-oak woodlands of Mexico and the southwestern United States. This intelligent and social bird is known for its striking blue plumage, black facial markings, and distinctive crest. Mexican Jays are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of seeds, insects, and small vertebrates. They are often seen foraging in groups, communicating with a range of vocalizations. Their habitat is characterized by dense vegetation and open woodland, where they build cup-shaped nests in trees. While not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and fragmentation pose potential risks to their population.
