Mexican Parrotlet

Forpus cyanopygius

The Mexican Parrotlet (Forpus cyanopygius) is a small parrot species native to Mexico and Guatemala. These parrotlets are known for their vibrant green plumage, with males displaying blue rumps and females having a yellowish-green rump. They are social birds often found in flocks, and their diet mainly consists of seeds, fruits, and vegetation. Their high-pitched calls and playful behavior make them popular as pets. In the wild, they inhabit arid and semi-arid regions, including thorn forests, scrublands, and agricultural areas. Despite being relatively common in the wild, habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade pose potential threats to their population.
