Mexican Whip-poor-will

Antrostomus arizonae

The Mexican Whip-poor-will is a medium-sized nightjar found in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico. It is known for its distinctive call, a repetitive 'whip-poor-will' that is often heard at dusk and dawn. This species is primarily nocturnal, feeding on insects such as moths and beetles. Its cryptic plumage provides excellent camouflage during the day, as it roosts on the ground or low branches. The Mexican Whip-poor-will is typically found in open woodlands, scrubby areas, and canyons, where it can blend in with its surroundings and forage for prey.
