Saudareos meyeri
Meyer's Parrot (Saudareos meyeri) is a medium-sized parrot native to central and southern Africa. These intelligent birds are known for their distinctive green plumage, with a bright yellow patch on the head and a red patch on the shoulder. They are highly social and often form large flocks, displaying complex social behaviors and vocalizations. Meyer's Parrots are primarily found in savannas, woodlands, and open forests, where they forage for seeds, fruits, and nuts. They are cavity nesters, using tree hollows as nesting sites. While they are not currently considered threatened, habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade are potential concerns for their populations.
