Micronesian Imperial Pigeon

Ducula oceanica (Desmarest, 1826)

Micronesian Imperial Pigeon, Ducula oceanica, is a pigeon of Palau and Micronesia, with breeding records from Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, Kosrae and the Marshall Islands. It is a member of the Columbidae family and was described in 1826 by Desmarest. It is linked with montane forest, secondary woodland, beach forest and mangroves, and also uses coconut plantations. On Pohnpei and Kosrae it is mainly a bird of the hills. The Marshall Islands populations are probably extinct, and on Yap the bird may have been introduced.
